Richard and Lance enjoy Pat O'Brien's Hurricanes with Bayou Rum while talking about Hurricane Parties. Paul Sanchez formerly of Cowboy Mouth's anthem "Hurricane Party" is featured. We also look at the more important serious side of hurricanes. More info on NolaSome.com
THE HURRICANE (DRINK)
In the 1940’s many US distilleries were used to manufacture necessities for war time, and domestic liquor was scarce. Rum coming up the Mississippi river from the Caribbean islands was plentiful. In order to buy a case of Bourbon, for example, there was strong incentive to purchase large quantities of rum. Pat O'Brien's general manager George Oechsner Jr and the folks in the bar experimented with recipes, and eventually everyone agreed that passion fruit was a hit! A glass shaped like a hurricane lamp was the perfect vessel and the Hurricane drink became New Orleans favorite libation. |
BAYOU RUM
"In 2011, deep in the heart of Sugarcane Country, three childhood friends had a revelation."
Once quietly produced in the backwaters of the Bayou, rum – America’s original spirit – had become a forgotten one. The ingredient central to rum – sugarcane – had been cultivated in their home state since the 1700s, but no one had yet harnessed this abundant natural resource to create a top-notch, premium rum. They vowed to change that by crafting a Louisiana rum for the world to enjoy. Two years later, the Bayou® Rum Distillery opened their door in Lacassine, LA. Utilizing traditional methods with state-of-the-art technology from fermentation through distillation, maturation and bottling, Bayou Rum has earned its title of #1 Craft Rum in America. Today, Bayou Rum is available throughout the United States. |

Richard and Lance create their own museum/pub crawl while being tourist in their home town. They also drink beers from Tin Roof Brewing. In news we will discuss the oldest living American WW2 veteran.
Audio version
TIN ROOF BREWING
Tin Roof Brewing is Baton Rouge’s largest craft brewery. It was started by a Banker who discovered craft breweries in Colorado and a Lawyer who did the same while attending school in Europe. Like so many other local brewers they felt that our area was lacking in quality craft beers. In November of 2010 Charles and William started selling Tin Roof beer. |

SAZERAC: FIRST COCKTAIL & LOUISIANA STATE DRINK
FromNewOrleans.com:
1838, Antoine Peychaud invented the Sazerac in his pharmacy at 437 Royal Street. Today, you can still enjoy this simple yet potent cocktail at the Sazerac Bar inthe Roosevelt Hotel where it has been served to everyone who’s anyone since 1938. Most bars around town do serve this cocktail. I recommend you go see Josh at the Napoleon House. |

SAINTS FAN GAME DAY DRINKING
Alcohol.org study:
"Drinking in moderation is acceptable, but alcohol use in excess can become a dangerous habit. A weekly schedule of NFL games can create an unhealthy habit of regular, heavy drinking. With that in mind, we decided to find out which teams’ fans drink the most and least, on both game days and non-game days." |
PIMM'S CUP:
FromNewOrleans.com:
Created by London barkeep James Pimm in the 1840s. A hundred years later the owner of the Napoleon House took Pimm’s No.1 creation and gave it a New Orleans twist by adding lemonade, Seven Up and a cucumber garnish. |

NEWS w/ HOTARD HUDDLE
The Huddle began as a sports blog back in May 2016. You see, all my life I wanted to be a sports broadcaster and journalist. That dream was short lived.
After realizing how much I despised the field of journalism, I quit writing after being fired in January of 2015. I took what I learned at THE Nicholls State University and launched my sports blog. As life develops, so do skills. I started writing about everything under the sun from sports, entertainment, politics and life in general. |

Bayou Teche Brewing
Bayou Teche Brewing was founded on this simple dream – to craft beers that complement the cuisine and lifestyle of Cajuns and Creoles.
With that mission, the Knott brothers decided on St. Patrick’s Day in 2009 to convert a discarded rail road car into a farmhouse brewery. |

What was the "Green Book?"
From The Atlantic:
In 1936, a black postal worker named Victor Hugo Green published the first edition of The Negro Motorist Green Book. At the time, the segregation-era guide was meant to direct black New York City residents to businesses they could frequent without facing the overt discrimination and threats of violence they encountered even up north. |

Abita Beer
"The Abita Brewing Company is nestled in the piney woods 30 miles north of New Orleans. In its first year, the brewery produced 1,500 barrels of beer. We had no idea what we started. Customers loved our beer! By 1994, we outgrew the original site (now our 100-seat brew pub) and moved up the road to a larger facility to keep up with demand.
We brew more than 151,000 barrels of beer and 9,100 barrels of root beer in our state-of-the-art brewing facility. Our lagers and ales are brewed in small batches, hand-crafted by a team of dedicated workers with only the highest ideals of quality. This pride, along with our brewing process, is what creates our great brews. We are privately owned and operated by local shareholders, many who have been with us since day one." (from website) |

Tulane Stadium was the home to Tulane Football from 1926 until 1974. Built on an old plantation where sugar was first granulated, the original construction cost approximately $300,000 and was made mostly from brick and concrete. As the site of the annual Sugar Bowl, Tulane Stadium was often informally referred to as "Sugar Bowl Stadium." After its expansion in the 1940's, Tulane Stadium became the largest football stadium in the south.
